As an intra-oral dental assistant you will receive and prepare patients for treatment, and sterilize, prepare and set out dental instruments and materials. You are trained to process X-rays, assist dentists during procedures, and record treatment performed. You may also take on administrative duties such as answering calls and coordinating appointment schedules.
The program teaches to the Domain Description for Dental Assisting, Canada’s industry standard. Upon successful completion, students may be eligible to sit for the National Dental Assisting Education Board (NDAEB) examination. After passing the NDAEB exam, graduates may apply to the Ontario Dental Assistants Association to become Certified Level II Dental Assistants. All dental assistants performing intra-oral (Level II) duties in Ontario must hold the NDAEB certificate. The program is approved by H.A.R.P. (Healing Arts Radiation Protection).

As a medical laboratory technician/assistant, you will be responsible for collecting blood, tissues and other samples from patients, as well as logging patient samples and preparing them for testing. You will perform laboratory procedures such as preparing specimens, culture media and stock solutions, and recognizing problems and errors in lab procedures.
You will also use automated equipment and computerized instruments capable of performing a number of tests simultaneously, as well as microscopes, cell counters, and other sophisticated laboratory equipment.

It meets rigorous national standards and represents a significant achievement, reflecting the quality of our program’s development, delivery and practical training. We also encourage our students to earn both national and provincial certifications (CSMLS & MLPAO) as these are often required by employers.
