The objective of this training is to give in-experienced participants adequate knowledge, confidence and practical experience needed to find meaningful employment in an entry level position in Data Cabling , Security Alarm or Security Camera Industry and advance their career from that point forward.
Student Profile
This program is suited for individuals that are tech-savvy, have strong mathematical and analytical skills, are detail-oriented and enjoy troubleshooting. Physical demands can vary; there is a considerable amount of climbing ladders, bending, reaching and hand-eye coordination activities.
Good color recognition is important, since you will be working with electrical conductors where different colors mean different things.
Physical mobility is important, since alarm installers must climb ladders, move around in crawlspaces and attics, do some bending and reaching and hand-eye coordination activities.
Customer service aptitude and excellent English language skills (speaking, reading and listening) are required.
Valid driver license is preferred as company vehicles may be required to make service calls.
Able to pass a security background check as per The Security Services Act of BC.
Career Opportunities
This program is entry-level training for a high demand tech industry and prepares graduates for employment by low voltage security alarm contractors and the maintenance departments of buildings and other establishments. Progression to supervisory positions or self-employment is possible; additional training and experience is offered to advance your career.
Admission Requirements
Applicants must successfully complete the admissions interview and entrance assessments with a minimum score of 50% in the English Assessment and a minimum score of 50% in the Math Assessment
Domestic students that can provide a Canadian transcript showing completion of English 11 or 12 or equivalent) with a passing grade of ?C?, will be exempt from having to write the English Entrance Assessment.
Domestic students that can provide a Canadian transcript showing completion of Math 10, 11 or 12 (or equivalent) with a passing grade of ?C?, will be exempt from having to write the Math Entrance Assessment.
Additional requirements
The Security Services Act of BC requires all security alarm installers in the province to hold a valid Security Worker Licence. Once you have provided all other prerequisites you will receive a conditional acceptance package with details on how to obtain your Licence. Curricular Requirements
No additional education or experience is required for enrollment into this program.
Special Equipment
Students will require appropriate safety wear in conformance with WorkSafeBC regulations which includes safety glasses, steel-toed boots and hard hat. A list of required tools will be provided at the beginning of classes.
Educational Materials
Students will be required to purchase a Ace Community College Structured Cabling and Security Systems Training Manual and a 2-inch 3 ring binder.
