Overview
The Nutrition and Food Service Management Program provides educational opportunities for individuals who wish to pursue a career in food service management and attain membership with the Canadian Society of Nutrition Management (CSNM). The focus of this accredited diploma program is on the health care sector. Langara graduates are in demand both in BC and?across Canada.
The curriculum incorporates core food service courses in food service management, operations, and nutrition combined with academic studies in related disciplines. Students apply the concepts of food service management through a variety of practicum and fieldwork experiences. The program can be completed entirely online on a full-time or part-time basis.?If preferred, the student can complete 50% of the program in the classroom.
Applicants with significant, related experience may qualify for Prior Learning, Flexible Assessment, and Recognition (PLAR) in some first-year courses. Eligibility is determined by the Department Chair upon review of the complete application.?
There are four streams that students can select from, depending on their past experiences and future goals.?
Diploma in Nutrition and Food Service Management ? for individuals who wish to gain membership to CSNM and work as a Food Service Supervisor, Food Service Manager, or Support Service Manager.??
Diploma in Nutrition and Food Service Management (Advanced Standing) ? for individuals who have previously completed a nutrition or dietetics degree. Internationally-trained dietitians can apply to this stream.
Diploma in Nutrition and Food Service Management (BBA Transfer Option) ? for students who think that at some time in the future, they will want to continue their studies, and complete a Bachelor of Business degree, from selected post-secondary institutions. This is the only stream that is eligible for BC Student loans.
Diploma in Nutrition and Food Service Management (Co-operative Education) ? for students who are coming to the program without any Canadian work experience.?Students need to apply to the Diploma in Nutrition and Food Service Management and indicate their wish to participate in the cooperative education stream in their letter of intent.?Instructions will be given on how to proceed upon acceptance into the program.?
More information on each stream can be seen in the Admission Requirements and Program Curriculum pages.
The Nutrition and Food Service Management program is accredited with the Canadian Society of Nutrition Management, giving graduates the ability to register with CSNM without the need to write the entrance exam.?
