Program Overview
Massage Therapists perform some or all of the following skills:
?Assess clients through health history, client interview, and orthopedic or neurological testing to determine indications or contra-indications for massage therapy
?Formulate an appropriate treatment plan based on the client?s condition
?Explain procedures, risks and benefits and treatment instructions to clients
?Administer massage techniques, treating soft tissues and joints of the body through soft tissue manipulation, relaxation techniques, hydrotherapy, trigger point therapy, joint pain and lower grade mobilizations, remedial exercise programs and client self-help programs
?Follow infection control and other public health and hygiene protocols
?Maintain client files and treatment records
?Suggest home care instructions and provide information about techniques for further postural improvement and stretching, strengthening, relaxation and rehabilitative exercises
?Manage business aspects of massage therapy (advertising, basic accounting, etc.)
?Consult with other health care professionals such as physiotherapists, chiropractors, physicians, and psychologists when developing treatment plans for clients
The Massage Therapy Program is designed to provide the students with a strong academic groundwork in massage therapy concepts and principles. This program incorporates theoretical knowledge with best clinical practices to achieve the goal of preparing the students in real-world scenarios.
The program provides students a wide range of knowledge and skills which includes massage theory and techniques, human anatomy and physiology to name a few. This program presents a thorough approach to well-being with emphasis on the treatment of chronic and acute human body conditions. The integration of theory, practice and research will equip the students with adequate skills to kick-start their career as Registered Massage Therapists.
ABHI offers schedules that suit the needs of the students. Students will be given the opportunity and option to take courses full-time, part-time days or evenings or weekends. Successful graduates of this program will be qualified to work in various settings and practices which include:
