About the Licensed Optician Program
Through a combination of?theory, practice (labs), and application (practicum), you will be extensively trained in eyeglass dispensing, contact lens fitting and automated refraction. Beyond the technological skills, emphasis is placed on interpersonal communication, customer service and professional practice.
Our program is accredited by the?National Association of Canadian Optician Regulators?(NACOR) and?our graduates are well-prepared to take the national licensing exams.
Admission Requirements
Pre-requisites:
Grade 12 graduation or equivalent, or mature student status*
English 10 minimum or equivalent*
Any Math 11 with a grade of ?C-? or higher or equivalent*
Passing verbal test of English if English is an additional language or equivalent*
Completion of Criminal Record Consent Form under the?Criminal Record Review Act
* Entrance requirements can be met with evidence of alternate assessments such as challenge exams, or acceptable standardized English equivalency tests as per the Stenberg College language proficiency chart. Evidence of post-secondary studies at an equivalent level where English was the first language is acceptable.
