Our Data Science and Big Data program introduces the core concepts behind big data problems, applications, and systems. The course will provide students with the ability to identify the characteristics of datasets and the ability to select and implement Big Data models. The course provides insights to techniques for data collection, monitoring, storage, representation and modeling of data, data analytics with Hadoop and MapReduce, predictive modeling and anomaly detection with Hadoop, and building data solutions in clustering, and Natural Language Processing.|The students will learn to develop applications using high-level API and compute data with interactive usage. The topics include getting started with Spark, developing and Prototyping applications, application execution on clusters and High-level libraries such as Spark SWL and MLib.

The program will primarily use the Python programming language and assumes familiarity with linear algebra, probability theory, and programming in Python.|KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS GAINED

Data Science and Big Data students?will understand the foundations on big data integration and processing on Hadoop, retrieve data and apply data integration patterns, design and apply techniques to model data, and handle streaming data. Students will be able to identify Big Data problems, use Spark Shell and write Spark Applications, interact with HDFS, execute Spark applications on clusters, and operate production applications.
Students will be able to perform pre-processing and integration of different sensor data, design and create a dashboard for IoT data, apply data processing technologies and perform feature engineering on IoT data.
The project work will build your technical skills by providing a methodological approach towards problem solving using tools and techniques in Data Science and Big Data.

Introduction to Programming – This instructor-led course is intended for students who want to learn how to write Python code that logically solves a given problem.
Statistical Inference: The course introduces the fundamental concepts for understanding statistical analysis and its use in testing hypothesis and exploratory data analysis.
Data Processing and Manipulation – This course will introduce the concepts of data processing, wrangling, manipulation, transformation, and operations on data using Pandas Library.
Data Visualization – This course will provide the necessary skills to interpret and present data clearly and visually appealing using Python libraries.
Big Data Analytics with Hadoop – The course will provide the ability to identify the characteristics of datasets and to select and implement Big Data models.
Big Data Tools and Techniques – This course will introduce students with Apache Spark, which improves Big Data Processing and will provide insights to developing and protyping applications, application execution on clusters and High-level libraries such as Spark SWL and MLib.
Data Analytics for IoT – This course provides an understanding towards analytics on IoT data and covers topics such as IoT Devices and Networking protocols, IoT Analytics for Cloud, Strategies to collect and Explore IoT data, Visualization and Dashboards for IoT data, Geospatial Analytics to IoT Data, and organizing data for Analysis.
Capstone Project for Data Analysis and Big Data – This capstone project provides a hands-on learning experience for students to work independently on a specialized topic from Data Analysis and Big Data.

JOB FUNCTIONS

Software Engineers and Information Technology Associates?perform some or all of the following duties:

Collect, consolidate, cross-tabulate and format data from various sources to prepare draft reports for review by supervisors or researchers
Assist in collection and tracking of data from monitored use of services and provide information to management and client groups
May prepare technical documents and monitoring reports on volumetric and other trend analyses
