This full-time diploma program prepares you to work as an Acute Care Aide.Work in a variety of health care settings, both public & private, including home support, assisted living, residential/complex care, special care units, other home and community care settings and acute care.This comprehensive program includes classroom hours, home study hours, community and facility clinical placements, a 600 hour monitored Cooperative work program and a final practicum.The Acute Care Program includes 1527 hours of training delivered over 71 weeks. It has three components:Health Care Assistant Certification (807 hours)Health Care Assistant Co-op Work ExperienceAcute Care Skills for Health Care Aides CertificationStudents who complete this program will be able to Register as a Health Care Assistant with the BC Care Aide and Community Health Worker Registry.Students will be qualified to work as care aides in BC Care aides and community health workers are also known as health care assistants or HCAs. They are frontline care providers in a variety of institutional and community settings including home support agencies and residential care facilities.To be eligible to work as an HCA in any publicly funded health care setting in BC, applicants must be registered with the BC Care Aide & Community Health Worker Registry.
