Personal support workers (PSW) assist with tasks of daily living. Services are provided in homes and apartments in community, long-term care facilities, congregate housing settings, etc. Personal support workers must develop a broad range of abilities beyond dexterity skills. They must be able to provide not only comfort, safety and well being to their clients, but also demonstrate sensitivity, empathy and compassion to them. Personal support workers help people who are disabled, chronically ill, or cognitively impaired. They often help older adults who need assistance.
Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) or equivalent, and mature student status are required. All potential students seeking admission into PSW program must pass a literacy test.
Graduates with a registered license can work a position in fields such as hospitals, medical clinics, research institutes, and many more.
