Program Information
The Personal Support Worker (PSW) program is structured in an eight-month modular format with 14 modules needed to successfully meet the curriculum guidelines. The program prepares graduates to provide supportive care to individuals across their lifespan by assisting them with their activities of daily living, including clients experiencing cognitive impairment, physical disability, and mental health challenges. Graduates may find entry-level employment in a variety of care settings including community, retirement homes, long-term care homes, and hospitals.
Admission Requirements
Grade 12 or equivalent (GED) or Mature Student Status.
ALL students seeking admission into the PSW program must pass the NACC Technical Literacy exam prior to admission into the program, and a must obtain a minimum passing score of 11 on the Wonderlic SLE (Scholastic Level Exam), and be up-to-date on immunizations prior to start of clinical placement. Students must provide a Canada wide Police Clearance of Criminal Record, including Vulnerable Sector check, within 30 business days of starting school.?International StudentsAppropriate student authorization or a Study Permit from Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada. IELTS Academic Test: Minimum score of 6.0 with no one test below 5.5.?

Career Opportunities:
With an aging population in New Brunswick and the ever-increasing number of long care facilities, nursing homes and special care residences, career opportunities for Personal Service Workers are also on the rise. A recent government-sponsored promotion for PSW jobs in New Brunswick lists over 70 villages, towns and cities in the province presently looking for workers in this field. Demographic studies confirm that the need for personal service attendants will only increase in the years to come.
