Program Overview

The Medical Office Clerk Diploma Program is designed to provide students with the business, technology and communications skills needed to work in a doctor’s office, hospitals, walk in clinics. Emphasis is placed on medical terminology, body systems, medical transcription and medical office procedures. Upon completion of the program, students will be able to conduct medical histories, explain treatment procedures, and prepare clients for examinations. Our Medical Office Administrator Program also fosters the development of interpersonal skills, organizational effectiveness, and communication skills necessary to function in a medical environment.

Admission Requirement

An Ontario Secondary School Diploma or equivalent; or be at least 18 years of age or older and pass an entry test

Expect to find employment in a variety of settings including private medical clinics; Community Health Units; hospital departments such as Admissions, Outpatient Clinics, Emergency, Radiology, or as a ward clerk or surgical Booking clerk; nursing homes, palliative care facilities, or senior citizens’ residences; medical transcription departments / facilities; private veterinary clinics; medical specialty offices; midwifery clinics; medical supply companies; Chiropractic or Physiotherapy clinics; and insurance companies dealing with private medical insurance.

Practicum Placement
This Course will provide the students 200 hours’ practical experience in a working Medical Office environment, for experience and exposure to the employment setting. Students are evaluated on core competencies and conduct, including knowledge, skills, professionalism, communication, teamwork, safety and patient care. Preceptors include Walk-in clinics, Hospitals, Optometry, Rehab/Physio, Dental, Specialists, Long Term Care and Clinical Research
