Medical Terminology – Introduces to frequently used medical words and abbreviations with emphasis on spelling and pronunciation for accurate communication with patients and health care professionals. Human Anatomy and Physiology – Introduces to the major concepts of human anatomy and physiology to recognize and describe each body part, its function and interaction with other body structures and its role in maintaining homeostasis. Medical Office Administrative Procedures – Introduces to the practices and procedures common to a contemporary medical office such as preparing medical correspondence, medical transcription, organizing and maintaining confidential records, medical e-scheduling and billing. Medical Transcription – Introduces to the development of proficiency in medical e-transcriptions, medical documents and reports, such as consultation & referral letters, follow up notes, diagnostic reports, pathological findings and patient records. Microsoft Access – Introduces to using advanced tools and controls in Microsoft Access to design applications, create dialog boxes, use macros, control data entry, create custom switch boards and tailor applications for multiple users. Medical Billing and Coding – Introduces to the rules and regulations pertaining to producing accurate billing records as outlined by the Ontario Ministry of Health, including e-scheduling, generating medical office financial reports, preparing health claims for the Ontario Health Insurance Plan (OHIP), Reciprocal Medical Billing (RMB), Workplace Safety & Insurance Board (WSIB) and private practice. Students receive in class lectures, as well as a private one-on-one appointment with a Career Services specialist to perfect their resume package and interviewing skills. Health Unit Coordinating I – Designed to prepare students for work within a hospital unit.? Students learn about hospital departments and hierarchy and how to communicate with and assist in the treatment of Canadians. Health Unit Coordinating II – Continues to prepare students for work within a hospital unit.? During this course, students begin to work with hospital simulation software. Health Unit Coordinating III – Concludes the preparation students for work within a hospital unit.? Students complete their activities with hospital simulation software. Students also delve into psychology and psychiatry to understand how psychological wellness affects treatment. Practicum – Provides the students with an opportunity to practice their skills in a real setting. The placement will be in either a Medical Office Administration or Health Unit Coordinating role, as determined by Career Services, computer typing speed, and host availability. Practicum Students complete field placements of 80 hours as a part of the program. CIMT College assigns students to medical offices, clinics, hospitals, or other MOA or HUC field placements to gain hands-on experience before being awarded the diploma. Orders Admitting, Transferring, and Discharging Patients Transcribing Laboratory and DI tests Students receive a log in for classroom and home work practice to prepare them for their career.
