The Massage Therapy program is divided into two consecutive years each containing a balance of theory and practical courses that aim to provide students with the prerequisite academic knowledge to allow them to proceed to simulation activities and then clinical. During the first year of the program, students will learn the fundamentals of massage therapy, including a base of science courses, as well as the foundations of massage therapy, ethics, laws and regulations, and clinical assessment.
The second year builds on the foundation established during the first, with a focus on more advanced treatment options for common conditions treated by massage therapists. Students will also learn more about the business side of massage therapy, with the aim of educating future business owners. Throughout both years students will also participate in clinical internships and externships to give them the opportunity to practice skills learned in class on different members of the community.
In addition to all course work, first year students are required to complete 60 clinic hours and 25 externship/outreach hours. Second year students are required to complete 165 clinic hours and 100 externship/outreach hours. It is expected that at all times students, faculty and staff in the Massage Therapy program will conduct themselves in a fully professional manner, which will simulate the situations that students will experience in the workplace.
Mission Statement:
It is the mission of the massage therapy program to support the College in improving people?s lives through learning. To that end, we will provide students highly trained instructors, an education that exceeds set standards, opportunities to give back to their community with time and service, and relevant challenges to learn, think, and act using critical thinking skills, a compassionate heart, and well-trained hands.
