Overview

Do you want to create and make? Do you want bring your ideas to life? Jump right into creating customized tools and programming machines such as robots with the one-year Fabrication Technologies Certificate.
Designed to get you into the fabrication lab as soon as possible, the program will help you develop practical skills in engineering design, fabrication and prototyping. You?ll learn how programming, electronics and machining work together by using a Raspberry Pi to control mechanical devices and use water jet cutters to fabricate planetary gears. To help you apply your new skills in a job or business setting, you?ll also take courses in basic marketing and communications.
Get an edge in the job market
Engineers Canada?s 2025 job market outlook predicts an increased demand for engineers in response to the retirement of the baby boomer workforce. Those with training in manufacturing, industrial and electrical or electronic engineering will be in particularly high demand. The Fabrication Technologies Certificate program teaches you skills that are relevant to these and many other branches of the engineering field. The hands-on experience you get can give you an edge when applying to such jobs as millwright, welder, machinist, sheet metal worker and electronics engineering technician.
Further your studies
If you complete the certificate and want to continue your studies in engineering, you can apply to Douglas College?s Engineering and Fabrication Technologies Diploma program; this will give you the math and science credits you need to transfer into the second year of a university engineering degree program.
