PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
Textiles have been an integral part of human daily life for thousands of years. This course presents the important history of Fabric and Textiles, its etymology, sources and types (animal, plant, mineral, synthetic textiles), production methods and more. They will learn the essential vocabulary used to describe textiles and fabric-related terms, various fabric classifications based on the origin of fibers and its processes or its end usage.

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS
? Grade 12 graduate or mature student status (British Columbia 19 years or older)
? Meet minimum English language proficiency requirements.
LEARNING OBJECTIVES
Upon completion of this program the successful student will have reliably demonstrated the ability to
Define the terminology of fibers, yarns, fabrics, finishes, dying/printing, and other surface finishes.
Identify and evaluate the properties (characteristics) of fibers, yarn structures at the molecular scale plus woven/knit structures, dyes/prints and finishes for various end usages.
Determine the proper care techniques and procedures for natural/manmade fibers.
Explain the relationship between the textile industry and the apparel industry.
Identify how various fibers are produced/ manufactured.
