In less than a year, you’ll have the job-ready career training to create inclusive classrooms and learning experiences, assist teachers in early childhood education settings, elementary schools, and secondary schools, or help children and youth in your community.
Education Career Training
As part of the Education Assistant diploma program, you’ll take courses in the foundations of education for children with learning, intellectual, or physical disabilities, communication and education, learning and behaviour, autism and related disorders, assistance with cognitive and physical challenges, and teaching life and personal care skills.
Additionally, you’ll augment your education with workshops in non-violent crisis intervention, Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST), Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS), and Standard First Aid with CPR C and AED training.
Practicum Placements Included
In addition to the focused training in a variety of educational scenarios, you’ll also participate in two practicum placements of four weeks and 120 hours each. During these placements, you’ll have the opportunity to test your new skills, helping students with their social and educational needs in an inclusive environment.
