Construction and Drafting Technician

The AutoCAD Technician program emphasizes hands-on construction practices and computer-aided drafting and design techniques for buildings and civil infrastructure. Design, drafting, and construction methods will be taught via lecture, in-class activities, and site visits to the field. Topics covered include current building construction practices, civil infrastructure construction standards, and the use of computer-aided design and drafting software (including AutoCAD, Civil 3D, and Sketch Up)?ensuring that students acquire the knowledge, skills, and competencies required for them to enter the industry.
Learning Objectives
Upon completion of the Construction CAD program the successful student will have reliably demonstrated the ability to:
Use AutoCAD effectively to create working drawings
Use AutoCAD as a tool to work on architectural and structural drawings
Apply local building code standards to architectural and interior design drawings
Apply city bylaws for site and building design
Understand local building inspection techniques under Canadian Association Home property Inspector
Understand civil infrastructure road pavement design and construction standards
Understand civil roadworks inspection techniques
Understand engineering and architectural design drawings and perform quantity estimating
Use Revit to create 3-dimensiional building models with rendering effects
Use Civil 3D to create land development subdivision and infrastructure drawings
Use Sketchup to create 3-dimensional model and sheet layout
Create a working drawing portfolio for presentation during interviews
Apply the knowledge and skills to the practicum placement to gain practical employment experience (*Practicum only)
